[IN A WORLD LIKE THIS PROMO] THE BACKSTREET BOYS Tell One Direction 'It's A Marathon, Not A Sprint'

One of the most successful groups in music history, the Backstreet Boys have sold more than 130 million albums worldwide, and are among the world's most influential pop stars.

The band, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson, spoke to Daybreak about their forthcoming world tour, getting a star on the walk of fame, and offered some advice for One Direction.

"We've spent some of the best years of our lives together, we've grown up together, grown up with our fans," Howie Dorough told Aled Jones and Kate Garraway.

After 20 years in the business, the Backstreet Boys have just been honoured with a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, "some of us actually live in Hollywood so we can walk on ourselves", the band said. With a new single and album out soon, the Boys who are known for their harmonies, said they "take pride in making every song the best it can be."

As the world's most successful boy band, they had some advice for Brit groups One Direction and The Wanted: "Enjoy it, that's the most important thing is to have fun, stay on your own path and surround yourself with good important people, get a good lawyer just in case… you never know!" AJ said.

Brian Littrell added, "I would say pace yourself, it's a marathon, it's not a sprint."
